Hypolude embodies the ubiquitous sound of the kick drum from a Roland TR-808 drum machine in a hybrid instrument form. The 808 formed the basis of hip-hop, R&B, and modern electronic music, music that fueled the aesthetic and cultural movements of futurism, industrial couture, and punk. Referencing the furniture-like qualities of large instruments—an upright bass or harp, for example—Hypolude combines its visual weight with automotive design elements and crisp modular sound engineering to envision a new large-format ensemble instrument, giving new form to an iconic sound.
